Print Shop Equipment Appraisals

M&E Appraisal Associates, Inc. (“M&EAA”) provides certified print shop equipment appraisals.

Greg Feinsinger, CMEA recently appraised the machinery & equipment of printing & binding operation. The subject machinery & equipment included a multiple color Hamada sheet fed offset press, an Adast multiple color sheet fed perfecting press, Heidelberg duplicators, a Xerox digital printing press, U.V. coaters, rotary and platen type die cutters, paper cutters, paper folders, booklet makers, saddle binders, perfect binders, computer to plate prepress equipment, and other printing and bindery support equipment.

Appraisal conclusions: the appraisal was completed for company acquisition purposes, under the Fair Market Value scenario. The printing presses were, older, although they had relatively low impressions. The values concluded for the presses were low, due to very minimal current demand. The value for the other equipment varied, dependent on type, age, condition, current market appeal, etc. As a general observation, the aggregate value concluded was higher than anticipated, as current demand for supporting printing, die cutting, bindery equipment is fairly strong.

Mulch Production Equipment Appraisals

Greg Feinsinger, CMEA, president of M&EAA recently appraised the machinery & equipment of a mulch and soil production operation.  The subject machinery & equipment appraised included a soil production line, (2) automatic mulch bagging lines, a mulch coloring system, (2) portable downswing grinders, portable screening plants, vibratory screens and trommels, wheel loaders, excavators, skid steers, walking floor trucks and trailers, tractors, forklifts, and other company vehicles.

Appraisal Conclusions: Demand for mulch and soils in the geographic region where the subject company is located continues to grow in 2014. The subject machinery & equipment was observed to be in good condition and well maintained. The mobile equipment in particular, including the (2) CBI portable downswing grinders had very favorable concluded values, partially attributable to their condition and low hours. Fixed equipment such as the soil production line and the mulch bagging lines also had relatively high concluded values, although they were somewhat impacted by the removal value scenario contemplated.  

Distribution Center Appraisals

Greg Feinsinger, CMEA, the president of M&EAA recently appraised the machinery & equipment of a 650,000 square foot distribution center. The subject machinery & equipment appraised included structural steel pallet racking, forklifts, order pickers, narrow aisle high reach trucks, electric pallet jacks, stretch & spiral wrapping machines, shrink wrapping machines, over the road tractors, dry van trucks, dry van trailers, and other company vehicles.

Appraisal Conclusions: good quality, structural steel pallet racking is significantly more valuable than roll formed pallet racking. The pallet racking was concluded to have high value, which was somewhat tempered by the large volume of sections, and the limitations of the value scenario contemplated. Other “standard” material handling equipment such as forklifts, order pickers, narrow aisle reach trucks, etc. are used in multitude of industrial applications, which contributed to the favorable values concluded.

Plastics Equipment Appraisals

Appraisal Conclusions: the market for good quality, standard tonnage injection molding machines is fairly strong. Large capacity injection molding machines have an inherently smaller potential resale market. Molds and fixtures have little or no value under a liquidation value premise. These items have significant value under a continued use criteria,

Water Bottling Equipment Appraisals

These items are standard to the industry, and have high value. The blow molding machinery & equipment, although somewhat older, also has higher value. Other items such as depalletizers, palletizers, conveyors, etc., are older and have lower value.

Bakery Equipment Appraisals
