Printing & Bindery Equipment Appraisals

Industry Observations:  There has been a declining preference for using or receiving printed materials in lieu of alternative mediums such as the internet. In some areas, the printed word is proving slow to produce and costly to distribute. All the while, new media encroaches. The global commercial printing industry is one of the world’s largest manufacturing industries. However, the industry is stagnating. In 2013, it is expected to generate revenue of approximately $434 billion (unchanged in real terms compared with 2012). Global commercial printing industry revenue is expected to decrease an annualized 0.5% in the five years through 2013.

Scrap Metal Recycling Equipment Appraisals

M&E Appraisal Associates, Inc. (M&EAA) provide certified scrap metal recycling equipment appraisals.

The principal of M&EAA has extensive experience appraising the machinery & equipment of scrap metal recycling facilities. Operators in this industry are engaged in the collection, processing and recycling of ferrous metals, like iron and steel, and nonferrous metals such as aluminum, copper and nickel. The typical recycling process involves sorting, shearing, shredding, torching and baling scrap metal to be sold to downstream metal smelters for further processing.

Specific machinery & equipment appraised includes mega shredder systems, hydraulic shears, magnetic and eddy current separation systems, balers, melt furnaces, casting lines, ring shredders, copper choppers, car crushers, forklifts and other material handling equipment.

Industry Observations: The scrap metal recycling industry has been exposed to the full force of the global economy over the past five years. While the industry quickly rebounded in 2010 and continued to improve through 2011 and 2012, domestic and international demand conditions have softened, and the industry has yet to reach its prerecession high. However, the industry is expected to experience a less volatile period over the five years to 2018 as metal price fluctuations settle down.

Glass Manufacturing Equipment Appraisals

M&E Appraisal Associates, Inc. (M&EAA) provide certified glass manufacturing equipment appraisals.

The principal of M&EAA recently appraised the machinery & equipment of a flat glass manufacturing facility.

The subject machinery & equipment appraised included raw materials storage and transfer equipment, electric and natural gas fired melting furnaces with boom chargers, fore hearths, forming roll stands, annealing lehrs, cold end glass finishing equipment, secondary tempering lines, glass edgers and glass polishers, glass washers, glass inspection equipment, forklifts, and general plant & support items.

Appraisal Conclusions: The subject machinery & equipment was generally older. Not removable or heavily installed machinery and equipment had little or no value under the removal value concept considered. This category of machinery and equipment had high In-Place value. The market for domestic flat glass in general is continuing to improve, and corresponding demand for glass manufacturing machinery and equipment is also on an upswing.
